How to Perform
Stand to the side, out of the patient's view. Hold your hand about 15 cm (6 inches) from one ear and briskly rub your thumb and fingers together to produce a soft rustling sound, asking the patient to say when they hear it; gently mask or occlude the opposite ear. Compare the two sides.
