Whispered Pectoriloquy

How to Perform

While listening to the chest with the stethoscope, ask the patient to whisper a phrase such as ‘one-two-three,’ comparing across lung fields. Over normal lung the whisper is faint and indistinct; the finding (whispered pectoriloquy) is present when the whispered words are transmitted clearly and distinctly.
