How to Perform
Use a curvilinear probe with the patient supine. Place the probe in the suprapubic midline angled caudally into the pelvis and identify the bladder as an anechoic, often rectangular structure deep to the abdominal wall. Scan through it in both transverse and sagittal planes; to estimate volume, measure the three orthogonal dimensions (width, height, and depth).
