Cardiac Ultrasound (Focused Echo)

How to Perform

Use a phased-array probe and obtain the standard focused views: the parasternal long-axis and short-axis (probe at the left parasternal third to fourth intercostal space), the apical four-chamber (probe at the point of maximal impulse, angled toward the right shoulder), and the subcostal four-chamber and subcostal inferior vena cava views (probe beneath the xiphoid, angled up toward the left shoulder). In each view, assess overall cardiac structure and function and the pericardial space.
