How to Perform

With a curvilinear or phased-array probe and the patient supine, obtain the four standard windows: the subxiphoid (or parasternal) view of the pericardium; the right upper quadrant view of the hepatorenal recess (Morrison's pouch), including the subdiaphragmatic space and the inferior pole of the kidney; the left upper quadrant view of the splenorenal recess and subdiaphragmatic space; and the suprapubic view of the pelvis in transverse and sagittal planes. Inspect each dependent space for anechoic free fluid.
