Lower Extremity Vein Compression Ultrasound (2-point)

🎬
Video coming September 2026

How to Perform

Use a high-frequency linear probe with the patient supine and the leg externally rotated and slightly flexed. In the transverse plane, image the common femoral vein at the groin (including the saphenofemoral junction) and apply downward pressure with the probe until the vein walls fully coapt; then move to the popliteal fossa, image the popliteal vein in transverse, and again compress. Complete coaptation of the vein walls at each point is a normal (negative) result; a vein that does not fully compress is abnormal.
